“Lest We Forget?” More Like “Lest we Remember”

Not only is the UK involved in constant conflicts it is also financially benefitting from them. The UK is one of the world’s largest arms exporters. Between 2010 and 2019, almost 60% of UK arms exports went to the Middle East, mostly to Saudi Arabia. UK-made weapons have been used in the Saudi-led bombardment of Yemen, and the UK government has provided ongoing maintenance and technical support for Saudi aircraft.  More recently it has been condemned for supplying F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel, a country being investigated for genocide by the international criminal court. 80 years after the Holocaust in Germany, the UK is actively involved in another Holocaust, this time in Gaza.

Recognising Palestine: The Ghost of Britain’s Past

Lest we forget, the British and its fellow white European colonisers carved up the whole of Africa, and parts of Asia, creating borders and nations that are still in conflict today. What is the point of even learning history in Britain, if in 2025 we are still making the same mistakes as 1884. White men don’t get to tell us how to govern our lands. Sudan, Congo, Kashmir, and Palestine are live examples of the conflicts imperialism has left in its wake. Our blood is not cheap and our resistance is defined by us, not your recognition of us.

Charlie Kirk and an Ideology of Violence

Kirk was a controversial figure, but more than anything else, he was a useful tool to the far right, in life and now in death. His murder will be used to sanitise his deceitful ideas and more insidiously, to demand more censorship, more police powers, and more crackdowns. The only people who benefit from his murder are his own base.
